*Job Purpose *
The Financial Analyst is a crucial role in the finance department and is responsible for managing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.
This position requires a deep understanding of not-for-profit accounting principles and a commitment to the mission of providing quality early education services.
The Financial Analyst reports to the Director of Finance.
*Working Relationships * Community professionals Agency and School Staff Families Volunteers General public *Prime Functions * _Maintain and Manage Accounting System:_ ● Record daily financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
● Prepare select monthly journal entries, including payroll, and maintain records for general ledger activity ● Maintain account information in the AccuFund Accounting software and in electronic files ● Track and record prepaid expenses and pledge/donation entries _Budget & Grant Financial Management:_ ● Run departmental budget analysis and budget monitoring ● Prepare Profit & Loss statements based on agency service lines ● Complete and send invoices to community partners and grantors, including cost-share billing ● Prepare and analyze departmental budgets ● Review expenses routinely and works with budget owers to determine appropriate allocation _Cash and Credit Card Management:_ ● Deposit cash receipts, ACH, and enter receipts ● Reconcile credit card statements of senior leadership ● Audit vending machine _Vendor Management:_ ● Process vendor invoices, ensure accuracy, and maintain positive relationships with suppliers ● Bi-weekly payables check run ● Negotiate and secure favorable payment terms when possible ● Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and ensure the organization's compliance with relevant financial reporting standards.
● Maintain W9 forms and prepare and send annual 1099s _Team Collaboration:_ ● Collaborate with colleagues in the finance and administration department to streamline processes and improve overall financial efficiency.
● Provide support and training to staff on financial procedures as needed ● Share financial reports and analysis relevant to the finance team's responsibilities _Professional Development and Trainings:_ ● Participate in relevant workshops, seminars, webinars, and online courses to acquire new skills ● Keep abreast of changes in accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices ● Provide training to other finance team members when needed _Assist the agency as needed:_ ● Completion of miscellaneous projects as directed by CFO/ VP of Administration or Director of Finance.
● Encouraged to volunteer 4 hours of time per year to a Penfield activity _Qualifications:_ ● Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or business-related field required.
● Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in accounting, non-profit experience preferred.
● Knowledgeable of GAAP.
● Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and written and oral communication skills.
● Computer literacy required: efficiency in Microsoft office, including strong Excel skills.
Ability to learn new programs.
● High level of confidentiality and business ethics ● Demonstrates a commitment to understanding and advancing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
● Able to work well both independently and as a member of a team ● Able to work at a computer station for extended periods of time.
● Ability to lift or move objects of 25 lbs.
