AVP - Accounting

Old Republic Risk Management (ORRM) is currently seeking an AVP - Accounting to join its Accounting Team at our home office located in Brookfield, WI.
In general, the AVP - Accounting provides oversight and strategic direction to accounting staff and evaluates and makes improvements to accounting processes while ensuring compliance with organizational accounting policies and applicable laws and regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Supervise direct reports, make recommendations for performance management and disciplinary action.
Train subordinates to achieve goals.
In addition, contribute to the new employee selection process.
· Work closely with Accounting & Finance leadership in administration and supervision of the operations of the accounting department.
Maintain a highly motivated, well-trained, productive, and efficient staff by leading and promoting positive employee relations.
· Solicit, recommend, evaluate, and make improvements to accounting principles.
Ensure compliance with organizational accounting policies and applicable laws and regulations.
· Oversee various accounting functions, including ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue accounting, as well as associated analysis and reporting.
· Ensure operational excellence and departmental compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and other laws and regulations.
· Ensure project / departmental milestones and goals are met and adhere to approved budgets.
· Act as a department liaison within the organization to facilitate the collection of data and information that is needed to support the accounting department.
Effectively create professional relationships and collaborate with others.
· Oversee the practice of providing recommendations to Account Executives and Account Managers on the handling of accounting procedures specific to individual client programs.
Ensure proper audit documentation and control.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, and a minimum of ten years of related experience, including strong accounting operations and project management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPA designation is strongly preferred.
Working as an AVP - Accounting requires one to work independently and effectively within a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products is necessary.
Other skills necessary include excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and accurate proofreading skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use a variety of office equipment.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: This position requires one to sit for extended periods of time and stand and/or walk occasionally.
The position requires one to occasionally push, pull, carry, and/or lift up to 10 pounds.
No personal protective equipment is required.
Ergonomic equipment is available to employees.
