The sawbuck table originated in Pennsylvania in the early 19th century and is characteristic of Pennsylvania Dutch vernacular design.
The sawbuck is distinguished by X-framed supports at each end of the table in addition to a sturdy central rail and key-tendon joints.
Exceedingly well crafted, original sawbuck pieces are sought after today for the heirloom quality that has allowed them to survive more than 200 years in the American home.
