Major Responsibilities: Manages and oversees the operations, staff, and sustainable growth of the Aurora Specialty pharmacy and promotes higher level of patient experience for the pharmacy enterprise.
Oversees established initiatives for service and clinical quality, employee engagement, and financial performance.
Develops, implements, maintains and provides oversight to consistent clinical processes, content and workflow for the clinical specialty programs throughout Aurora Pharmacies.
Responsible for leading specialty pharmacy initiatives and providing clinical direction and strategic development of specialty pharmacy services, which entails providing a high touch service for rare diseases and the distribution and handling of expensive pharmaceutical products.
Provides clinical direction and expertise as it relates to data management in the Pharmacy Clinical Information Systems with a primary focus on Specialty Pharmacy, including but limiting to, clinical administrative procedures, clinical practices, assisting in the development and implementation of retail specialty activities, and reporting patient outcomes and successes to maintain access to key medications.
Serves as a key contributor to the development of consistent policies and procedures, pricing strategies, product selection, key indicators for clinical success and management of user education around specialty drugs.
Serves as a quality and technical expert resource on teams and projects.
Develops, coordinates and provides educational development for pharmacy staff, students and other health care professionals around specialty disease states and processes, and participates in competency evaluations of pharmacy staff.
Collaborates with local schools in offering internship opportunities for students.
Monitors and reports on quality initiatives regarding adherence to industry best practices and as determined by outcome measuring and reporting.
Analyzes clinical performance measurement indicators, processes, and audits and resolves issues.
Provides consultative and resource support to staff regarding all aspects of risk management.
Manages and oversees significant medication events with Risk and Treasury Service.
Reviews and facilitates investigations or clinical trials in specialty pharmacy areas.
Performs assessments of risk management activities to determine program effectiveness.
Obtains and complies with various codes, laws, rules, and regulations concerning patient care, including those mandated by state and federal agencies.
Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: Pharmacist license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.
Experience Required: Typically requires 5 years of experience in Specialty pharmacy operations.
Includes 3 years of management experience in planning and leading Specialty pharmacy operations, and overseeing staff and budgets.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Expert level knowledge of pharmacy quality standards and knowledge of evidence based, best practice resources to promote program efficiency and effective clinical outcomes.
Advanced level knowledge of the advances in pharmaceutical practices and understanding of health care and specialty pharmacy trends.
Demonstrated ability to positively lead change and gain results.
Proven relationship-building and management skills.
Demonstrated ability to implement new programs, work within tight time frames/deadlines, and work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.
Strong clinical decision-making skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop tactical plans to meet business objectives and successfully implement program/project plans.
Must demonstrate excellent leadership, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Must possess the ability to deal with multiple priorities and be self-motivated.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Generally exposed to normal office environment.
This position requires travel so may be exposed to road and weather hazards.
Must be able to sit the majority of the workday.
Must have clear speech and functional vision and hearing.
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
