These four books can be purchased individually or as one package for $50.
If you are a fan of the Fender Stratocaster, then "The Stratocaster Chronicles, Celebrating 50 years of the Fender Strat," ($35) is the holy grail.
The fully authorized book showcases the history of the world-famous guitar and was written for players, collectors and fans while providing a perspective that links the instrument with its most famous players.
Included with the book is a CD that contains interviews and performances by some of the most famous Strat guitarists.
The holy grail for Gibson guitar fans is "Gibson Electrics, The Classic Years," a paperback edition published in 1998 by the Hal Leonard Corp.
of Milwaukee.
The book says that since the inception of the first "electrical" guitars in the 1920s, no other manufacturer has produced a greater variety of professional quality models than Gibson.
This book, Hal Leonard says, presents a documented account of the instruments released from the 1930s up to the mid-'60s, which saw
the coming of age of the electric guitar.
This 256-page edition (yes, it includes a chapter on Waukesha's Les Paul) has more than 500 illustrations, including 100 in color, and previously unpublished material.
Online prices are all over the map, but my price is $25.
If you decide to buy both books for $50, I'll throw in free of charge "Guitars, A Celebration of Pure Mojo" and the tour booklet from Paul McCartney's New World Tour in the early 1990s that made a stop in Milwaukee.
